RE

St Paul's Religious Education Rationale

A high-quality RE education should inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Teaching should equip pupils with knowledge about diverse faiths and people and the central role that religion and belief play in local and global affairs. Our curriculum gives children an opportunity to explore matters of religions and non- religious beliefs. Our pupils are encouraged to then discern what is of value for themselves as they develop and explore their own ideas and ways of living.  As pupils progress, their growing knowledge about religion and faith should help them to deepen their understanding of a variety of beliefs and cultures (National Curriculum)

We teach RE as a stand alone subject to ensure courage but it is interwoven in all we do at St Paul's and underpins how other subjects are taught and how everyone at St Paul's lives their lives. Our aim for our pupils is for them to be courageous forward and critical thinkers who are respectful to everyone.  Our RE curriculum is developed with a holistic approach, focusing on the child as a whole and encouraging the pupils to flourish and explore their spirituality in their individual way.

At St Paul’s Primary School and Nursery, we create opportunities for children to investigate, research and understand religions and beliefs from around the world. We strive to deliver a high quality RE education that inspires and engages pupils to explore and become curious about our world and the people that live in it. We aim to provoke challenging questions about meaning and purpose in life, beliefs about God and issues of right and wrong, essentially what it means to be human. Our teachers plan to equip pupils with systematic knowledge and a clear understanding of a range of religions, enabling them to develop their ideas and identities. We want our children to be passionate and love the world they live in, taking care of it and responding to global issues as they arise. We make sure our pupils are equipped with a broad knowledge about the diversity of people from different nationalities and cultures, living in a vast variety of places across the globe.
